This Girl Can Hoop is more than just a basketball programme—it’s a movement that’s creating space for girls across Lincolnshire to get active, build confidence, and find community through sport. Born out of a desire to make basketball more accessible, This Girl Can Hoop breaks down the barriers that often prevent young women from getting involved in sport. It’s a safe, supportive environment where girls can learn the game, push themselves, and discover what they’re capable of—on and off the court.

It’s Not About Winning. It’s About Belonging.

The goal of TGCH isn’t just to develop players. It’s to empower them. Whether a participant has never picked up a ball or already plays regularly, every session is built around core values: confidence, inclusion, self-expression, and team spirit.

There’s no pressure, no trials, and no need to be the best. The sessions are open to all girls aged 15+, with a focus on enjoyment, growth, and positive experiences. TGCH helps participants feel part of something bigger—and that sense of belonging stays with them.

Why It Matters

Many girls drop out of sport during secondary school. For some, it’s a lack of confidence. For others, it’s the feeling that sport isn’t “for them.” TGCH flips that narrative. Every session is led by experienced coaches who know how to make people feel welcome and supported. It’s about changing perceptions of what sport can be: inclusive, empowering, and fun.

What’s more, the benefits stretch far beyond basketball. Girls leave TGCH sessions standing taller—more resilient, more connected, and more confident in themselves.

What to Expect

Sessions are structured but relaxed. Participants will:

  • Learn and improve basketball fundamentals

  • Take part in small-sided games and team activities

  • Build leadership, communication, and confidence

  • Hear from guest speakers and role models in sport

  • Be part of a growing network of young women lifting each other up

The Bigger Picture

TGCH supports wider goals around physical activity, youth engagement, and social development. It links with national initiatives like This Girl Can and Uniting the Movement, and locally it fits right into Lincoln Basketball’s mission to grow the game from the ground up.

It’s not just about creating players—it’s about creating pathways. Many of the girls who start with TGCH go on to join local teams, take up coaching, or stay active in other sports. It’s a launchpad.
